AUXILIARY NEWS

As the holiday season quickly approaches, let us reflect on the blessings we have and remember those no longer with us with hearts full of fond memories. Please remember this is also a time that is most difficult for people of all ages. We all need to take extra time to reach out to those who will be having holidays without loved ones or be unable to visit those too far away at this time. While being rushed with the hustle and bustle of what some think is the merriest time of year, many will be just trying to keep warm and feed their loved ones and maybe a gift or two. Take time to give them a call, send a card, or even take time to text and let them know they are being thought about. The best gift of all is often not something material and very pricey, but a nice hug, a few minutes of kind words, or even enjoying hot cocoa, tea, or coffee along with a few cookies. Many wishes for safe travels and enjoyable laughter to our Post 379 family.

Saturday, November 23rd, was a “sweet” day at our Post. The Auxiliary held their annual bake sale in time for Thanksgiving. Many thanks to Suzie, Dena along with her lovely granddaughter and CC Cantrell for doing a great job decorating tables and uniquely displaying an awesome selection of homemade items and handling the event during Chairperson, Judy’s absence for a few hours to enjoy a well-earned
personal time away. There was something for everyone. The tickets started selling at 11am and
ended around 3pm with winning tickets drawn, along with our live auction for several delicious and unique baked items going to the highest bidder. Judy believes this year was the highest amount raised which totaled $1106. Funds had been previously voted by in October’s general membership meeting to be used toward membership expenses. There was also a private donation given the same day which has been earmarked to help Girls State expenses for 2025. Thanks so much for everyone’s continued support of our Post 379 events and programs.

Our 55” TV donated for cancer research tickets have been on sale a couple weeks and are selling quickly. Please see the bartender if interested or check out the posted flyers for details. $1.00 per ticket / $5 buys
six tickets. Drawing December 21st or when all 100 tickets have been sold if before posted date.

TOYS FOR TOTS Collection date is Saturday, Dec 14, from 11am until 4pm. Bring a new unwrapped toy to
bring joy to a child this Christmas.

NEW YEARS PARTY: Live entertainment; Everyone requested to contribute a heavy appetizer/potluck item. Please bring your dish in a disposable container. Champagne at midnight and blackeye peas and cornbread served to ring in the new year.

PLEASE NOTE: NO EXECUTIVE OR GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING IN DECEMBER.

From the Auxiliary to our Post 379 friends a Blessed Holiday Season and safest of New Year celebration. In Service Not Self.

RIDERS NEWS

Greetings Post!

December already!?! But, what a great November, great riding weather for the most part too!

A huge thanks to Post 379 for making our Riders Ride-In Car and Bike show such a success. We had twenty-four entries, cars and bikes, with trophies for the best original car (1971 Ford Mustang Mack I), Custom car (Shelby Cobra replica) and most popular motorcycle (a 66 Triumph Speed Twin). In addition to the spectacular weather, combining our event with the 82nd Airborne’s BBQ Cookoff, the Post’s Early Bird membership drive, and finally, the Potluck dinner (great BBQ), turned out to be a huge success for Post 379 and our Veteran’s Day Celebration.

Finishing out November, the 30th was our Coats for Kids ride. Details next month, but last year we collected over 100 coats from our Post 379 Family, along with providing a $500 check for a great cause. Thanks to your generosity, we filled another large box of toiletries, snacks and other items for our Liberty House charity, supporting homeless vets. It is all very much appreciated by the organization. Your Legion Riders will again be participating in this year’s Wreaths Across America, December 16th . We will be making our determination of where at our next meeting, either the DFW National Cemetery or possibly a smaller, lesser served cemetery. Our next Riders meeting is scheduled for Sunday, December 1st at 4 PM.

Our Riders Cook weekend, Friday the 13th for Chicken Fried Steaks, and Saturday the 14th for Burgers & Dogs.

As always, we are grateful for all the support and love you show us.

FROM THE LEGION CHAPLAIN

Hello Brothers and Sisters.

Hard to believe that December is already here. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with friends and family. I would like to wish all at Post 379 a very Merry Christmas! Remember the reason for the season.

Please keep Jim Grau in prayers as he is home recovering.

Teach us, O God, to serve you as You deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to toil and not seek rest, to labor and not ask for any reward save that of knowing that we do Your will. Amen

Be safe over the holidays and look forward to another great year.

Jon Christensen – Vice Chaplain Post 379
