COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

It’s May already! Pool season is upon us. Warmer weather about to get hotter weather! More outdoor activities. BBQ’s. Family Time!

Election Reminder – Are you interested in running for a Legion Officer position for the 2024-2025 year?

Please let me or Jim Grau know. Officer elections are coming during June’s Membership Meeting!

Brandon Williams, Robin York, Lauren Kelley and I attended the 12 District Convention. Elections were held for the 2024-2025 Year. Special Guest was Texas Department Commander, Gene Tooey!

Brandon Williams was elected 12th District 1st Vice Commander

Robin York was appointed 12th District Historian

Lauren Kelley was elected 12th District Sergeant at Arms

Congratulations to these 3 amazing 379 Family Members!

A big shout out to those that attended the NASCAR event the weekend of April 12, hosted by Texas Department Commander, Gene Tooey. We gained a couple of new members!

I do have one ask: Would each of you pledge to bring in one new member to our 379 Family by May 15?

Memorial Day is May 27. We will be participating in the ceremonies at Bluebonnet Cemetery. Please watch for more information.

I know we all consider this a 3-day weekend of fun with family and friends. Please take a moment to reflect on our great nation, its freedoms and what we stand for. We all served. We all know the sacrifices. We all know.

Memorial Day is the day we remember our Fallen.

A huge thank you to you, our Legion 379 Family.

Humbly in your service, not self

Post 379 Commander

AUXILIARY NEWS

May is upon us with beautiful weather and roadways filled with wildflowers. I hope this brings thoughts of many springtime pleasures ahead for us all.

Chair Judy Davidson and co-chair Faye Chambers along with their committee joyfully accepted the hours of reading each girl’s paperwork, interviewing each separately and the difficulty of narrowing the prospects down to 21 young ladies this year. Bell and Trinity High Schools are monetarily supporting six girls at each of their schools. Through fundraising, Bingo funds voted by membership and private donations, the Auxiliary is supporting six girls from Southlake, one from Grapevine and two from Colleyville Heritage High Schools. Saturday, April 20th we hosted this year’s area orientation with roughly 75 in attendance.

After the orientation, the committee met with our girls to work together to round up ideas to “pay it forward” for fundraising for the coming year. Way to go Auxiliary, bringing forward a great group to move forward into the our future generation.

Kentucky Derby watch party is Saturday, MAY 4th watching the BIG SCREEN TV for Running for the Roses along with our annual games, contests of Original HATS and of course stick horse racing. In lieu of stick horses feel free to use your walker and participate in the races. Party starts at 3:30/ Post time for the race is 5:57. Hope to see ya soon. The CROWN basket drawing will be held before the race.

THURSDAY, MAY 16 we will hold our 2024-2025 ELECTIONS in place of our general membership meeting. SIGN UP SHEET IS POSTED IN LADIES FRONT RESTROOM for anyone interested in holding an office. Elections begin at 7:00 pm.

MONDAY , MAY 27TH will be Memorial Day Remembrance at Post 379. A signup sheet for side dishes and desserts will be available by May 10th for our annual Luncheon. Bluebonnet Cemetery will once again be holding the services that morning with lunch served at the Post afterward. Watch for posted times.

RIDERS NEWS

April 7th was our annual Blessing of the Bikes and it went well. Riders Chaplin Judy “Sassy” George presiding with Rockin’ Robin assisting in providing the blessings.

Between the rain, work, injuries and the lack of patches, our Rider’s Plaque remains at Corsicana Post 22. So, we’ll be attempting the trip again in the near future.

Our next Riders meeting is set for Sunday, May 5th at 4:00 pm. Our May Cooking dates are Friday, May 10th, at 6:00, for Riders famous Chicken Fried Steaks. Riders will also be cooking Saturday, May 31st (swapped due to Memorial Day) serving up Burgers and Dogs.

This month we will be supporting Mansfield’s Post 624 Spring Fling on May 4th, and the Blue Bonnet Cemetery Memorial Day celebration on May 27th. June is shaping up to be a busy month. We are planning a Car/Bike show June 8th, and Boy’s State and Girl’s State escort rides. We will continue to firm up plans as time goes on.

As always, we are grateful for all the support and love you show us.

FROM THE LEGION CHAPLAIN

Howdy Brothers and Sisters of Post 379. Hope all are well. Post elections are coming up and let’s pray for officers that are staying and the ones running for office. May it be a fair and speedy election.

Let’s pray for the ill:
Continue prayers for Scott Gossett as he is recovering from surgery. Also for his parents Dennis Gossett and his wife Edith as they are concerned and worried. Prayers for the family of Brian McCormick. He passed away on 4/15/2024. No further information yet.
Prayers for speedy recovery for Julie Dimas (daughter of Bobby Kennedy). She had successful brain surgery. Also please pray for any unspoken illnesses that we tend to keep private.

O God, the strength of the weak and the comfort of sufferers, mercifully accept our prayers on behalf of our comrades and loved ones who are ill or shut in. We know not what is best for them, but You know. Grant them patience and endurance, relief from pain and suffering, and, if it be Your will, the blessing of a swift recovery, and that eventually they may will dwell with You in life everlasting. AMEN

Jon Christensen – Vice Chaplain Post 379
